The evolving tear does not seem to have a ceiling function applied when determining the modifier to add to the defense skill. There are caps listed in game on the items but when synching data to Magelo, the per item caps for max gain to defense is being ignored. A 3% increase to a character with 375 Defense (from the 12/20 tear) grants a boost of 11 to the profile when the item is capped at 6; the max evolved item is capped at +10 but without the ceiling would adjust the Defense skill by +19.

No current data available for level 13 - 19, but the pattern seems to indicate +1 to max per 2 levels and +1% per 5 levels.
