“More than 70% of players from the Everquest community have created at least once a Magelo Profile.”

Dear community,

Thousands of coffee mugs and hundreds of pizzas later the whole Magelo team is thrilled to introduce the new Magelo!

After 5 years of servicing the community at best, the ‘old’ site is gone for a well deserved rest and gives its place to a brand new and modern website. This is for us the beginning of a whole new story and I would like to take this opportunity, on behalf of the whole team, to thank you so much for your fidelity, trust and support during all those years. What a ride!

Thank you also to all of the people that helped us during our beta program. Thank you for your patience, thank you for your time, you folks helped us tremendously.

And last but not least, thank you to the team of volunteer Advisors for their amazing help and dedication. Kudos to Onetree, Maurice and Jaradis.

Now enough with taps on the back and onwards to the good things!

Improvements :

Our development process was driven by the will to answer as many requests as possible made by the community as well tagging along our guidelines.
  • To improve the quality of our profile system.
  • To add new features.
  • To revamp and modernize our design.
  • To build a new framework suitable for a multi game channel website.
And here is a brief list of the major changes made with this release. It’s by no means a complete change log but rather a general overview.
  • General web site : So many changes have been made it would be death boring to list them all. From features to layout, everything has been built from scratch to make this website a new exciting experience and to serve the community at best.
  • Magelo Profiles : The profiles were of course at the center of our update. We have added or tweaked many of its features as shown below:
    • Added a Breakdowns tab to show your overall direct (Mod1) and indirect (Mod2) contributions made by your items.
    • Tooltip over items provides a quick description of the hovered item.
    • Clicking on an item will not only shows all its augments but also the base item.
    • In the modifiers view you can now expand an item to see the contribution from its augments as well as the total from items, augments and the overall.
    • Information throughout the profile has been arranged in a more appropriate way
    • A brand new look!
    • Cool goodies such as streamed music and profile transparency support.
    • The use of the Magelo seal has been simplified and now comes in two flavors. Either your profile is authentic (gold seal) or not (blue seal). Magelo authentic seal is our guarantee for an genuine profile.
      1. Default profile example : http://eq.magelo.com/profile/1327114
      2. Premium profile example : http://eq.magelo.com/profile/1257891
  • Character management : The interface has been completely revisited. We have added a new Dashboard to help you study all contributions for a given modifier per slots and to manage your character′s equipment quickly and efficiently. Managing your character has never been that easy and fun.
  • Ranking : The Magelo Ranking is now seamlessly integrated into our website. To insure the Ranking ′s integrity we are displaying only authentic profiles. This scheme makes our Ranking a truly formidable tool for every players willing to embrace their character′s progression to its fullest. Also, on popular demand we have added a privacy setting in your character′s management view to let you choose if you wish to be ranked or not.

Our roadmap :

Today Magelo as reached a major milestone. After 5 years of servicing the Everquest community the best we could, the whole team is working even harder to provide more features and more content to MMORPGs players.
  • On the short term our goal is to provide content for Everquest that will match with the quality standards shown our profiling system.
  • On the longer term, our goal is to extend Magelo′s activities and to keep on accompanying you on your current and future games.
To reach those goals Magelo must stay as it as always been, a 100% independent project made by gamers for gamers. We’re not a corporation and we have no relations with Real Money Traders whatsoever. We are a community, we are YOUR community.

Magelo revenues are generated only by Premium membership, we have no “external” financial support and running ads is not an option for us. As a Premium member you already had access to a whole range of features making the use of Magelo even simpler, useful and fun.

The new Magelo includes even more features for Premium members and we are not stopping here! Not by far. More cool tools and exclusive contents are on the way for Everquest. Now add the capacity to support multiple game channels, the Premium membership is more appealing than ever.

But rather than having a complex subscription model based on an extra charges per game and per feature we decided to offer a global Premium subscription that will include all current and future features as well as all current and future game channels!

The new subscription fee stays extremely competitive by being as low as 2$ per month, making of Magelo one of the best deal on the market!

Great features, an amazing community, an active team of developers. What are you waiting for? Show your support to the Magelo project by subscribing to our Premium offer today and live your Everquest experience to its best!

How does $24.95 a month equate to "as low as $2 a month"?

Also, I believe used to have 8 game slots available (1 basic + 1 extended) – now I've got 5. Please correct this ASAP.

would also like to add that beings that you are not adding non premium members to rankings furthers the accuracy and legitamacy of those rankings from being an accurate record as a whole .

gotta agree with some. i was a premium member that expired during the beta. doubt i will resubscribe now based on your model. double the price for possible future enhancements and game channels? no thanks. i play eq and eq only. if i were to move to a new game, i'd prolly play that game and that game only.

good luck with the new model. you guys were good in the past, if you decide to rethink your pricing strategy, feel free to shoot me an email and i'll prolly subscribe again.

Similar comments as above, including the fact that 24.95 does not equal $2 a month. Even if it did, this would only be one of the best "deals" (need to fix your typo) due to the fact that it is one of the only service providers for this particular service.

In my opinion you should have gotten everything working great and impressed everyone FIRST and THEN maybe thought about a price increase. Raising your price by over 100% without showing the community anything really new I think you are going to find to be a poor decision.

I have 3 days left, hopefully you will reconsider in the next 72 hours.

I guess they figure since EQplayers is $3 a month, they can raise the price to $2 a month and there won't be too much of an uproar. Before getting into the following, I would just like to say that Magelo is a far supieror product than EQplayers, the following is just an idea to keep everyone happy.

For $2 a month with Magelo, you get full access to all of its features.

For $1 a month with EQplayers you can get the basic service which allows you to autoupdate your characters and view their profiles. For many people (including myself), this is enough.

For $3 a month with EQplayers you get all of their features. Basically the same (at this point) as Magelo.

How about you have tiered subscriptions similar to EQplayers?

For those that want the use of the ranking site and how about use of the updater on future games, you charge $2 while those that just want to update their profile and view it (on one specific game) pay the $1?

I personally never have used Magelo for a database search, so I have no need to its spell/item database. I've always used other sources for those. I'm sure many others feel the same way.

"..thank you so much for your fidelity, trust and support during all those years..." --Magelo

Too bad you have violated that trust by ignoring our privacy and releasing private information to the public and third parties.

"...We’re not a corporation..." --Magelo

That is apparent; a corporation in this century recognizes the serious business and legal ramifications of their actions.

"...We are a community, we are YOUR community..." --Magelo

Not any longer. The cancellation of my Premium subscription is imminent under my "private" username. At which time please cease and desist from the storage, reproduction and propagation (to any affiliated or non-affiliated, third-party entities) of any "Individually identifiable information" related to my account; including, but not limited to, credit card numbers, electronic mail addresses, billing addresses, telephone numbers, first names, middle initials, last names and internet protocol (IP) addresses.

I've been a premium user in the past, but cancelled due to technical issues.
While some of the new features look promising, there is nothing that justifies $25/year for just updating the single EQ-char I play and showing my e-penix to the public.

The pricing is of course solely at your descretion, but a little add-on-service to EQ is for me never worth 25% of the base-EQ-price (I pay $99/year).

Furthermore you are justifying the new price with the many new features of the future, but nobody can really test those without first paying $25

So, my suggestions for you.
  • Have some kind of basic service (similar to the past) for the old price of $1/month (update+item-database?)
  • Make premium-premium content for which people who want it, can pay double the price.
  • Have some kind of test-premium-membership once you got the new features, like 3 days for free or you can once use Magelo for 1 month for $2/$1.

Somebody in my guild said that eqrankings would probably soon vanish, with you offering rankings and guildlistings as well. But since you only include premium users and not every guild will be able to persuade all/most members to forge out $25 that won't be true I guess.

I personally will continue to enter the new stuff for my single char manually, I may have thouzght about using the new Magelo for $12 (since I could test that MU works again for me)...but $25...thanks, but no thanks.

Anyway: Magelo IS a nice addition to EQ and I like using it, but at the current price-tag I will stay a leeching, limited, non-premium user I think.
