It seems that Magelo Update has some issues when it is being run in a different mode than EverQuest itself and I mean in this case whether the application is being run as a normal user or with administrator rights.

If you experience problems under Windows XP, make sure to set the privileges for Magelo Update to be run as administrator. Under Windows Vista the same applies.

You can set administrator rights under Vista by right-clicking the Magelo Update icon and selecting "Properties" in the menu that appears. Select the "compatability" tab and checkmark the option to run the program as an administrator.

How do you set administrator rights in Windows XP?

Aanina, is your Windows account limited (meaning, it's not Administer level)? If it is limited, an admin account on the machine will have to change the properties on your Magelo Update to run at Administrator level. If not then there's nothing to do.

I have winXP SP2 with Java 6 (the latest update Runtime 6 Update 1) and MU would not run

Aanina, If you right click the MU icon you should see the option Run As
This allows you to select administrator account (if you know the password) to run MU under but this did nothing for me.
What i kept seeing in the Java error was a cannot find file error
MU (or Java) was looking in the wrong cache folder

My solution. step1 ) Uninstall Magelo Update from the start menu icon
step 2 ) control panel -> Java -> view temporary files .. find and delete all MU app and resources
step 3 ) come back here and redownload MU and voila MU running on my machine again

Hope this helps as any further diagnosis is beyond my abilities

Dunno if you got this prob figured out or not so figured I would try it here first before starting a new thread. When I try to start magelo from both my computer and the website here I get an error message

Java(TM) Web Start 1.6.0_01
Bad installation. No JRE found in configuration file

Just tried to uninstall magelo and got the same message. Going to try uninstalling java and see if that works lol

edit Uninstalling java didn't help, and neither did doing the steps above^^
Any ideas?

Cenallron, have a look at the JRE sticky in the Support section. It explains how to ensure a clean JRE installation on your computer.

Yes as said in my edit = ) I tried all that, I keep getting

Java(TM) Web Start 1.6.0_01
insert big red X Bad installation. No JRE found in configuration file
OK button

This seems to be only a problem with me, so I am going to try a few things... if you have any ideas let me know

Any ideas? I uninstalled Magelo cleared my Java Cache and then reinstalled Magelo. I can run it off the website but then I always get the "EQ has been recently patched" message, which isnt true. If I run it from my desktop it doesn't load at all.

Delete the desktop shortcut. It should've been removed when Magelo Update was uninstalled. Then run Magelo Update from the web site again. If that doesn't restore the shortcut you can uninstall/reinstall one more time. And if that still doesn't work then look in the FAQ for a shortcut how-to.
